The Art Deco tower at 48 Wall Street, also known as One Wall Street, was completed in 1928 with a design by Ralph Walker of Voorhees, Gmelin & Walker. The building served as the global headquarters of the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation until 2014, when it was sold to a joint venture led by Macklowe Properties for $585 million.
A New York City Landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the office building at One Wall Street will be converted to condominiums. Demolition of the bank infrastructure, such as vaults and elevator doors, is already underway, and the first residents are expected to move into the building by the end of 2020.
