The office building rising at 1230 Avenue of the Americas was completed in 1937 as part of Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan. It was designed by The Associated Architects, and originally known as the U.S. Rubber Company Building. In the 1950s, a 19-story addition was built on the site of the RKO Center Theater, a project led by architects Harrison & Abramovitz. Nowadays, the building operates as the headquarters for publisher Simon & Schuster, which is why it’s known as the Simon & Schuster Building.
