The 30-story Art Deco skyscraper at 11 Madison Avenue in Midtown South was designed by Harvey Wiley Corbett and Dan Everett Wait. It was originally supposed to rise 100 stories and be the tallest building in the world, however, the onset of the Great Depression led developers to scrape these plans. The building was completed in 1932 as part of the Metropolitan Life Home Office Complex, and 11 Madison was previously known as the Metropolitan Life North Building, situated right next to the MetLife Tower. Nowadays the tower is owned by SL Green and has been renovated in the 1990s. It has received several awards and it features high-quality, green office space right next to Madison Square Park.
