The Ladders, 137 Varick Street: Walt Disney’s Future HQ
Known as The Ladders, 137 Varick Street is located in the Hudson Square neighborhood at the corner of Spring and Varick Streets. Consistent with the architecture within the area, the building features a masonry shell with stone cladding along the base.
137 Varick Street, along with three other buildings that make up 4 Hudson Square, will be demolished to make way for a brand new, two-tower, 19-story headquarters for The Walt Disney Company. The company acquired multiple properties in the neighborhood in a $650 million portfolio transaction, from Trinity Real Estate, in 2018.
The new building will be designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill with Skanska handling construction. Disney’s new headquarters will house ABC and WABC News, as well as offices, production space, and studios for The View and Live With Kelly and Ryan. Currently, the building is vacant and preparing for demolition. No completion date has been revealed yet for the project.
